Edge banding is a material that protects, decorates and beautifies the section of wood-based panels. It is not only the finishing touch of the characteristics of the panel, but also determines the life cycle of the panel and household products.

So why seal the edge board? What is the effect?

1. Prettier

After the edge is sealed, the internal structure and material cannot be seen from the side. Generally, the same color edge sealing strip is used to seal the edge. This unified set of furniture is more beautiful in appearance.

2. The board can be reinforced.

Adhesive is also required between the edge strip and the board (the adhesive will be used for the straight strip, but not the same as the buckle strip). This reinforcement from the side makes the sheet less prone to cracking.

3. Prevent moisture intrusion

The result of wet board is deformation, opening glue, which will affect the use of furniture. Edge sealing can effectively prevent the board from getting wet, which is especially important for humid areas in the south.

4. Prevent harmful substances from being released from the circuit board.

Sheets with low environmental protection grades release a large amount of formaldehyde, which can easily lead to indoor formaldehyde exceeding the standard. Sheet edge sealing can slow down the release of formaldehyde, but this kind of edge sealing measures can not cure the symptoms, so some more environmentally friendly sheets have appeared in custom furniture.

What kinds of edge sealing materials are there in general indoor panel furniture? What are the distinguishing features?

PVC edge banding

PVC edge banding is mainly made of PVC, with traces of wood grain, marble, cloth and so on. The picture is bright and smooth, with the realism and three-dimensionality of wood. Edge banding machines are widely used in China and are mostly used for edge banding machines for panel furniture. At present, three-color printing is mainly used for edge sealing, and the number of printing layers is rich, followed by two-color printing and single-color printing.

Advantages: light weight, easy to process, cost-effective, wide range of applications.

Disadvantages: unstable quality, obvious color difference after trimming, easy to age and break.

ABS edge banding

ABS resin is one of the international advanced materials, with excellent properties of environmental protection, sustainability and recyclability, and few additives are added in processing and manufacturing. ABS edge banding has the advantages of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, fire resistance and moisture resistance. Good dimensional stability, strong impact resistance and good gloss. The edge banding process can be mechanical or manual, and the requirements for adhesives are not high.

Pros: Trimming looks shiny and smooth without white edges.

Disadvantages: The production cost is high, and the price is about twice as high as the PVC edge banding of the same plan. Commonly used in high-end panel furniture.

solid wood edge strip

Solid wood can be processed into infinitely extending roll products with a thickness of 5mm and a width of 5-300mm, mainly used for furniture with wood veneer. This kind of edge sealing will stick non-woven fabric on the back to increase the strength of the veneer and prevent the veneer from cracking. The length of a roll is about 200m, which can be used continuously on the edge banding machine, which improves the work efficiency, trims the edges neatly, and solves all the shortcomings of the veneer single-strip edge banding machine.

Advantages: good edge sealing effect, convenience and high utilization rate. It is suitable for mechanical edge banding of solid wood composite furniture and solid wood composite door components.

Disadvantages: high cost of raw materials and high cost of manufacturing technology.

stainless steel edge

Metal has a unique modern feel, giving products the perfect texture, understated yet luxurious. The aluminum alloy edge strip does not crack, is not easy to deform, has good scratch resistance, corrosion resistance and weather resistance, long service life, good flexibility, and is more environmentally friendly. Commonly used for edge sealing of wardrobes, cabinets, door panels, etc. , and better protect corner positions from impact damage.

Advantages: strong quality, not easy to deform, excellent sealing effect.

Disadvantages: The effect of matching with the wood grain finish of the board is poor, and the design aesthetics is lacking.
